At Valorsul, what you no longer value and have therefore thrown away becomes a resource again, a raw material that can be transformed into a new cardboard box, a new glass bottle, electricity, fertiliser for agriculture or materials for building a new road.
Organic valorisation

Food waste from some of the canteens, restaurants and markets in the Lisbon metropolitan area (north) is sent to Valorsul's Organic Treatment and Valorisation Plant.

At this plant, food waste is treated and transformed into organic agricultural fertiliser, without chemical additives, for use in agriculture and gardening. Through the process of ‘anaerobic digestion’ it is possible to capture the fermentation gas (biogas) and use it to produce electricity.

The Organic Recovery Plant is made up of the Organic Treatment and Recovery Plant and the Green Waste Composting Plant.

Green waste, which is collected and delivered selectively, is treated and turned into compost at the Green Waste Composting Plant.
