Valorsul starts first carbon capture project in Portugal
In February, Valorsul, an EGF concessionaire responsible for urban waste management in greater Lisbon and the West Region in Portugal, began a pilot project to capture CO₂ at the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Plant in São João da Talha. The aim is to test state-of-the-art technologies in a real environment and contribute to a significant reduction in the company's carbon footprint.

Valorsul launches REUSE MAP to promote the reuse and circularity of materials
The www.reusemap.valorsul.pt platform brings together more than 350 projects to promote good environmental practices and make the reuse of goods more accessible to everyone.
Valorsul, the company responsible for the treatment and recovery of urban waste in the Lisbon area and the West region, is launching an innovative project today, as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (SEPR), to promote the reuse and circularity of materials - REUSE MAP is an online platform that maps and publicises activities dedicated to the prevention, reduction and reuse of materials, as well as combating food waste in the 19 municipalities in Valorsul's area of intervention.

Valorsul wins APCE Grand Prize - Sustainability & ESG
Valorsul was honoured with the APCE 2024 Grand Prize in the Sustainability & ESG category for its campaign ‘A good deed changes the world. Practise yours! Recycle!’, developed for World Youth Day (WYD) Lisbon 2023.
This award highlights the company's commitment to promoting sustainability and good recycling practices at the biggest event ever held in Portugal. The campaign aimed to make pilgrims and the population of Lisbon aware of the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling waste, minimising the environmental impact generated by the large influx of participants.

‘Virtual Tours - from Waste to Resources’ recognised with APEE Gold Award
EGF and its companies were recognised with the Gold Award from the Portuguese Association of Business Ethics (APEE), in the Environmental Impact Management category, for the ‘Virtual Visits - from Waste to Resources’ project.
Emídio Pinheiro, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Marisa Nobre, EGF's Marketing and Communications Director, attended the ceremony to recognise EGF's social responsibility and sustainability practices.

Open Innovation Valorsul 2024’ competition honours three innovative ideas for the sector
Valorsul's innovation programme received a total of 63 applications from 27 countries and 4 continents in the three categories of the competition. The award ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State for Energy, Prof Dr Maria João Pereira.
Valorsul, the company responsible for the treatment and recovery of urban waste in the Lisbon area and the West region, held the Valorsul 2024 Open Innovation Awards ceremony yesterday, 25 September, as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, where three innovative ideas capable of transforming the waste sector in Portugal were awarded in the competition categories. The event was attended by the Secretary of State for Energy, Prof. Dr Maria João Pereira, who chaired the awards ceremony and closed the ceremony, as well as personalities from the sector, experts and representatives from various public bodies in the field of the environment and waste management.
