At Valorsul, what you no longer value and have therefore thrown away becomes a resource again, a raw material that can be transformed into a new cardboard box, a new glass bottle, electricity, fertiliser for agriculture or materials for building a new road.
Scheduled shutdown of the Municipal Solid Waste Treatment Plant (CTRSU)
Valorsul
Tuesday, September 29, 2026

We would like to inform you that Valorsul’s Energy Recovery Plant will undergo a scheduled shutdown between 2 October and 20 November to carry out scheduled maintenance work essential to the smooth operation and safety of the facility.

In order to ensure the continuity of urban waste management and treatment services during this period, and in particular during October, alternative operational arrangements will be put in place. These may include the temporary diversion of waste to other Valorsul facilities, notably the Mato da Cruz Landfill. This is a temporary and planned situation, forming part of the standard operating procedures for periods when the plant is unavailable. Once the work has been completed, the facility will resume normal operations.

Valorsul will permanently monitor this operation, tracking waste flows and any associated impacts, with the aim of ensuring adequate operating conditions and minimizing possible constraints for the population and the territory.
For more information on operators managing this waste, you can contact the Portuguese Environment Agency by telephone at 214728200 or access the list of licensed waste management operators at https://silogr.apambiente.pt/pages/publico/index.php

We understand any inconvenience caused by this temporary operation and appreciate your understanding. All reported incidents will be recorded and monitored by Valorsul teams.
