At Valorsul, what you no longer value and have therefore thrown away becomes a resource again, a raw material that can be transformed into a new cardboard box, a new glass bottle, electricity, fertiliser for agriculture or materials for building a new road.

The www.reusemap.valorsul.pt platform brings together more than 350 projects to promote good environmental practices and make the reuse of goods more accessible to everyone.

Valorsul, the company responsible for the treatment and recovery of urban waste in the Lisbon area and the West region, is launching an innovative project today, as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (SEPR), to promote the reuse and circularity of materials - REUSE MAP is an online platform that maps and publicises activities dedicated to the prevention, reduction and reuse of materials, as well as combating food waste in the 19 municipalities in Valorsul's area of intervention.

On the platform, citizens can search for and locate various projects, shops and institutions, organised by service categories, such as clothing, furniture and other utensils, food, books, household appliances/electronics, donations and repairs - all dedicated to sustainable practices and promoting the circular economy.

‘Our portal already has 382 projects identified and mapped to promote the circular economy, making information on the reuse of goods more accessible to everyone. But this is just the beginning!’ emphasised Joana Xavier, Director of Valorsul's Transformation and Sustainability area. ‘Our goal is to continually expand this platform and we invite all citizens to contribute with suggestions for new sites. This European Prevention Week, we suggest you visit this new platform to find new shops near you and then try donating or buying some second-hand products.’

The new portal also has a diary dedicated to all events in the area of reuse, such as boot fairs and second-hand goods markets. There is also space to find out more about the work of some of these organisations. The REUSE MAP project also aims to count the quantities of materials reused and estimate the CO2 emissions avoided in the activities mapped.

This initiative, the result of a strong internal focus on meeting waste management targets and cooperation with partners in the sector, aims to encourage participation in reuse projects and the adoption of more environmentally sustainable practices, and thus increase the circularity of materials by reducing the amount of waste generated. As part of the EGF group, Portugal's leading company in the waste treatment and recovery sector and an environmental benchmark in Europe, Valorsul is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability with this pioneering initiative.

Valorsul invites everyone to actively navigate REUSE MAP, contributing to preserving the environment and building a more sustainable future.
